The Fair of Children´s Book

The Fair of Children´s Book took place in the exhibition halls "I", "E", "D" and "B" of the Liberec Exhibition Area. Publishers, editors and distributors of the children´s literature from the Czech Republic were presented in the halls "I" and "D". The hall "E" was devoted to expositions of foreign representatives - Japan, Nigeria, Iran, Romania, Austria and Great Britain. Also the Romany literature was presented here.

The actions of the supporting program ran in the hall "D1" - theatrical performances for children, chats, lectures, provision of autographs, dancing performances and also the ceremonial opening of the fair took place here.

Other actions of the program also ran on the 1st floor of the hall "I" in the small lecture hall, especially special workshops concentrated on problems of children readers took place here.
For all three days the biggest part of the supporting program was taking place in the hall "B". Thematic corners and workshops were prepared for children visitors here. Children could try, for example, production of handmade paper, finish creating of their own book, visit the world of their favourite book heroes, participate in a knowledge competition etc.
Also a rich supporting program prepared for the fair by the kindergarten Korálek was realized in this hall. Many kindergarten and primary schools not only from Liberec, but also from its surroundings, had a presentation here. A bookbinding workshop equipped by historical machines and tools was very attractive in this hall. A Czech bookbinder Jarmila Sequensová showed here an illustration of bookbinding craft, especially of machine and handmade gilding, and the visitors had a possibility to try it as well. The atmosphere of this hall was completed by exhibitions of historical textbooks, precious book bindings, art works of students of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the Technical University and bookmarks created by children from kindergartens and primary and secondary schools within the art competition announced by the Liberec Region.

Awarding a prize for the best children´s book of the year "Zlatá stuha" ("The Golden Ribbon") organized by the Czech section of IBBY was the important action of the first day. The most important writers and illustrators of children´s books were awarded here.
Generally the 1st year of the fair can be evaluated as a very successful one that is positively assessed both by the visitors and exhibitors themselves. High attendance, high quality of presentation of companies and a rich supporting program were the strong sides of the fair.

The Fair of Children´s Book 2004 will be realized within the term of 11-13 March 2004 (Thursday - Saturday). The information concerning the development of preparation and planned news for the next year will be provided continuously both on the fair websites and in special media.
